Summary: | Although the development of the Assyrian cavalry has often been the subject of much research, it is not the same for the precise identification of the horsemen who escort the Assyrian archers mounted on the bas-reliefs of AssurnasirpalII and of some of his successors. The equipment discovered in excavations, the Assyrian inscriptions and the iconography of contemporary populations will help to propose a geographical origin for these carriers of hemispheric cap and to better define their missions. |
