Item Description:a few hundred yards west of U. S. Route 11. This church stands on the site of Morgan's Chapel, erected in 1740 by Morgan Morgan, Joist Hite, and Dr. John Briscoe. The original chapel of unhewn logs was the first Episcopal Church established in what is now West Virginia. In the churchyard is the grave of Morgan Morgan, the first permanent settler in what is now West Virginia, as well as the graves of Revolutionary soldiers
