Item Description:St. Anne's Shrine, Isle La Motte, Vermont on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain, site of Fort St. Anne. Built by the French in 1666 for defense against the Mohawks. The Fort was the site of the first Mass and of the first settlement in Vermont. St. Isaac Joques, S.J. was tortured nearby in 1642 by the Iroquois. The Shrine is conducted by the Edmundite Fathers and Brothers. It is open between Memorial Day and Labor Day
