Item Description: | Beautiful and Historical Richmond, Va. Series (no.50). - Rich memorial windows by Triffany, Gorham and others shed a soft light of churchly dignity, especially beautiful being those to President Jefferson Davis and Gen. Robert E. Lee, regular attendants at this church. President Davis' pew is indicated at the right of the main aisle, Gen. Lee's on the left. At the extreme right is also a bronze tablet to the memory of Miss Winnie Davis, the Daughter of the Confederacy. It was while attending divine worship here on April 2nd, 1865, that a telegram from General Lee communicated to President Davis the fateful news that General Grant had broken the lines at Petersburg, Va., necessitating the evacuation of Richmond |
