Item Description:The City of Florence was organized in 1855. After the bombardment of Fort Sumter many refugees, among whom were Baptists, came to Florence to located permanently. On June 10, 1866, the Florence Baptist Church was organized with 36 charter members. The present church building was completed in 1895 and the first Sunday School building was added in the early 1900's. The present educational building was dedicated April 16, 1939. This is one of the largest churches in South Carolina
