Item Description:The First Church in Lexington, Massachusetts, was originally erected on the Green in 1692 where now a stone pulpit stands. The first Church proving too small, a larger Church was erected on the Green in 1713 and was standing on the memorable morning in April, 1775. In 1846 that structure burned and the present Church, overlooking the Battle Green was erected. This structure was erected off the Green, for by this date, the separation of Church and State had been effected
