Item Description: | Old Runnymede Church moved to Harper, Kansas in 1890 is the historical marker commemorating the "English Settlement" that thrived and died on the Kansas prairie. Runnymedes five years of existence was filled with merriment by the English sons there to learn farming but who spent their time on the polo field, steeplechase course and race track. - The Episcopal Church still contains interior furnishings as stone baptismal font and bronze plague imported from England - along with pews, old organ, bibles and three beautiful stained windows. The Harper City Historical Society repaired the exterior in 1960. Agnes Nye has done extensive research on the history of Runnymede and has painted a picture of the town through imagination and help of old timers. - The only remains of the settlement is a solitary grave - the father of Tom Hudson who is shown here |
