Item Description:Padre Junipero Serra, O.F. M. (1713-1784) Founder of the first mission, San Diego de Alcala - July 16, 1769 and 8 others which developed into the eventual 21 historic missions. Padre Serra died at Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo in 1784. This statue was erected in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, which derived its name from from one of the first Serra Missions - San Francisco de Asis, now known as Mission Dolores
