Item Description:The Gospel Visitor, or Der Evangelische Besuch, was the first Brethren publication published by Henry Kurtz, a German immigrant, in 1851 in Ohio. His purpose for the paper was to use the publication as a way of unifying the brethren churches that were scatted throughout the U.S. he reported on the annual meetings and promoted the understanding and discussion of the gospel. His paper was not officiated until 1853 by the annual meeting. In 1856, James Quinter joined as an associate and upon Kurtz’s retirement, inherited the paper and consolidated into The Primitive Christian
