| Summary: | This article publishes and discusses the fragments of the lost Ecclesiastical History of Daniel of Ṭur ʿAbdin. Daniel was a West-Syrian historian who lived in the first half of the 8th century; he was the maternal grandfather of the chronicler and patriarch of Antioch Dionysius of Tell Maḥre (†845), and one his main sources for the history of the Umayyad period. The article offers a reassessment of Daniel's person and work, followed by the edition, English translation and historical commentary on fragments and testimonia. Cet article publie et commente les fragments de l'Histoire ecclésiastique perdue de Daniel de Ṭur ʿAbdin. Daniel était un historien syro-occidental qui a vécu dans la première moitié du 8e s. ; il était le grand-père maternel du chroniqueur et patriarche d'Antioche Denys de Tell Maḥre († 845) et l'une de ses principales sources pour l'histoire de la période omeyyade. Cet article propose une réévaluation de la personne et de l'oeuvre de Daniel, suivie de l'édition, de la traduction anglaise et du commentaire historique des fragments et des testimonia. In diesem Artikel werden die Fragmente der verlorengegangenen Kirchengeschichte des Daniel von Ṭur ʿAbdin veröffentlicht und diskutiert. Daniel war ein westsyrischer Historiker, der in der ersten Hälfte des 8. Jahrhunderts lebte. Er war mütterlicherseits der Großvater des Chronisten und Patriarchen von Antiochien, Dionysius von Tell Maḥre (†845). Daniels Werk war für Dionysius die Hauptquelle für die Geschichte der Umayyadenzeit. Der Artikel bietet eine Neubewertung von Daniels Person und Werk, gefolgt von der Edition, der englischen Übersetzung und dem Kommentar der historischen Fragmente und testimonia. |
