Description
Summary:During his lifetime, Romeo Maione (1925–2015) was widely regarded as one of Canada's most prominent Catholic advocates for social justice. As the first national President of the Young Christian Workers in Canada, he brought this movement into English Canada and challenged Catholic lay people to become more actively involved in the world. As the first Executive Director of Development and Peace-Caritas Canada, his dynamic leadership established the foundation for how this new nationwide movement would serve the world's poor. An innovative thinker, he was the catalyst for creating ecumenical coalitions for justice. His legacy was to "disturb" Canadian Catholics out of complacency and into action for others.
