Description
Summary:The Missionary Identitx of the Priest in the Church. The Circular Letter of the Congregation for the Clergy titled The Missionary identity of the priest in the Church as an intrinsic dimension of the tria munera unfolds the all-embracing nature of the evangelizing mission in the life and ministry of priests. While the Vatican II decree Presbyterorum Ordinis focussed on the proclamation of the Word of God as the primary function of priests, this Letter has shown the missionary dimension as the innermost essence of the teaching, sanctifying and governing office of the priestly life. The mission intimately connects the threefold function because it belongs to the identity of the priest as one configured to Christ. In the Church, the priests share in the mission of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and they are earnestly invited to reorient their life and total ministry based on this innermost identity.
