| Summary: | The process of determining a topic for comparison or a tertium comparationis forms one of the most crucial steps in the disciplines of comparative religion ( Religionswissenschaft ) and comparative theology. Though the two disciplines have much in common in terms of their methodologies, they differ in terms of their ultimate goals. While comparative religion is oriented toward advancing the understanding of religion and religious phenomena, comparative theology aims at deepening and advancing religious truth. This affects the ways in which each discipline addresses critical questions of idiosyncrasy and hegemony in selecting the tertium comparationis. Der Prozess der Festlegung eines Vergleichsthemas oder eines Tertium Comparationis ist einer der wichtigsten Schritte in den Disziplinen der Religionswissenschaft und komparativen Theologie. Obwohl die beiden Disziplinen viele Gemeinsamkeiten in Bezug auf ihre Methodik haben, unterscheiden sie sich jedoch in Bezug auf ihre Ziele. Während die vergleichende Religionswissenschaft darauf ausgerichtet ist, das Verständnis von Religion und religiösen Phänomenen zu fördern, zielt die komparative Theologie darauf ab, die religiöse Wahrheit zu vertiefen und voranzutreiben. Dies wirkt sich auf die Art und Weise aus, wie jede Disziplin sich mit kritischen Fragen betreffs der Auswahl des Tertium Comparationis auseinandersetzt. |
