| Summary: | The object of this research is the carriage or coach and the study of its design at the service of the Tridentine doctrine for the conduction of Viaticum to the sick. It is intended to provide some considerations addressing its configuration from the technological and aesthetic transformations that placed it as the first sign of distinction as a rolling throne or mobile showcase in the protocols of the European courts. The success of some outstanding authors and treatises is reviewed, exposing their important contributions to the configuration of this vehicle. Main facts that legitimize the carriage as a vehicle to carry the Blessed Lord are collected, particularly dealing with the Habsburg dynasty in Hispanic territories. Finally, some keys to the design process are explored, such as regularization, articulation and emphasis on forms - shared with the disciplines of architecture and other arts - as well as the recognition of certain prestigious formulas within the styles. The Logroño Viaticum carriage is taken as a case study with the purpose of delving into its design, ornamentation and iconography. El objeto de esta investigación es la carroza o coche y el examen de su diseño puesto al servicio de la doctrina tridentina para la conducción del Viático a los enfermos. Se resumen las trasformaciones tecnológicas y estéticas que situaron al coche como primer signo de distinción a manera de trono rodante o vitrina móvil en los protocolos de las cortes europeas. Se revisa la fortuna de algunos destacados autores y tratados exponiendo sus importantes aportaciones a la configuración de este vehículo. Se recogen las principales noticias que legitiman al coche como vehículo para llevar al Señor Sacramentado, tratando particularmente la dinastía de los Habsburgo en los territorios hispanos. Finalmente se exploran algunas claves del proceso de diseño como la regularización, articulación y énfasis en las formas - compartidas con las disciplinas de la arquitectura y otras artes - así como el reconocimiento de ciertas fórmulas prestigiadas dentro de los estilos. Se toma como caso de estudio la carroza del Viático de Logroño con el propósito de ahondar en su diseño, ornamentación e iconografía. |
