| Summary: | This paper aims to analyze, from a historiographical perspective, the relationship between Christian-inspired charitable institutions and the National Service for Minors (by its Spanish acronym, SENAME) during the last Chilean military dictatorship (1973-1989). The study starts from the premise that the ethos of modern charity was one of the main historical antecedents in the subsequent processes of building welfare states in Latin America. Thus, this paper reflects on the charitable institutional influences present in the SENAME during its first years of operation after its creation in 1979. As a hypothesis, it is proposed that the legal-institutional framework represented by SENAME allowed the coexistence of different institutions under the same regime of protection for children. As a result, charitable institutions (such as the Protectora de la Infancia) continued to play a significant role in the child protection system as the State withdrew from the social rights of children in need of protection. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar, desde la historiografía, la relación existente entre las instituciones de caridad de inspiración cristiana y el Servicio Nacional de Menores (SENAME), durante la última dictadura militar chilena (1973-1989). El estudio parte de la premisa de que el ethos de la caridad moderna fue uno de los principales antecedentes históricos en los posteriores procesos de edificación de los Estados benefactores en América Latina. Así, este ensayo reflexiona sobre las herencias institucionales caritativas que estuvieron presentes en el SENAME durante sus primeros años de funcionamiento, tras su creación en 1979. A modo de hipótesis, se plantea que el marco jurídico-institucional que representó SENAME permitió la coexistencia de distintas instituciones bajo un mismo régimen de protección hacia las infancias. En consecuencia, las instituciones de caridad (como la Protectora de la Infancia) continuaron manteniendo una participación significativa dentro del sistema de protección de menores, ya que hubo un repliegue del Estado en materia de derechos sociales hacia la niñez vulnerada. |
