Description
Summary:This article is a critical evaluation of past attempts to write a theology of the Old Testament. The author comes to the conclusion that a theology of the old Testament is an historical discipline which must be clearly distinguished from a history of religion, a history of theology and Biblical theology. In imitation of Stade the author states that a theology of the old Testament can only be written by those who have learnt to approach the text of the Old Testament from a historical point of view. The old Testament scholar must focus his attention on the literary transmission ('literarischen Uberlieferungen') of the Old Testament. In this respect the approach of Von Rad comes closest to this ideal, and Bultmann's discription of the task of New Testament theology is still valid for a theology of the Old Testament.
