| Summary: | As a grateful tribute to the Augustinian historian CarlosAlonso Vañes, I offer this work, the result of a seminar held in 1998at the Gregorian University in Rome, in which Father Carlos hadsome participation by helping me translate some Latin expressions.Work consisting of three parts. In the first I will briefly explain thechallenges of the Church in the 16th century (America, the Turkishempire, the relationship of the Church with the Empire and withFrance, the internal divisions of the Church and the reform of the Church, emphasizing some voices of said reform). The secondchapter will be dedicated to the reform of Pope Paul III (1534-1549): the renovation of the college of cardinals, the commission of 9 cardinals, the convocation of the Council of Trent, the new ordersand courts, as well as the reform of the Dataria, taxes and fiscalismand above all the Commission created for the Reform in 1537, theConcilium that gives the article its title, the vicissitudes it wentthrough and its main protagonists (Jérôme Aléander, Tomás Badía,Gian Pietro Carafa, Gasparo Contarini, Bartolomeo Guidicioneand Laurerio Dionisio). The heart of the question was whether the Datary could demand an economic contribution for thecompositions (divided into temporal and spiritual graces, and these,in turn, into dispensations of sins or laws). In the spiritual graces,the opinion of some was that it fell into a true simony. GasparContareno did not think so if there was a just intention. Althoughthe cardinals with realistic crudeness speak that it is not honest, butthat it is a true simony. Como homenaje agradecido al historiador agustino Carlos Alonso Vañes, ofrezco este trabajo fruto de un seminario realizado en 1998 en la Universidad Gregoriana de Roma, en el que el P. Carlos tuvo cierta participación al ayudarme a traducir algunas expresiones latinas. Trabajo que consta de tres partes. En la primera explicaré brevemente los desafíos de la Iglesia en el siglo XVI (América, el imperio turco, la relación de la Iglesia con el Imperio y con Francia, las divisiones internas de la Iglesia y la reforma de la Iglesia, haciendo hincapié en algunas voces de dicha reforma). El segundo capítulo estará dedicado a la reforma del papa Pablo III (1534-1549): la renovación del colegio cardenalicio, la comisión de 9 cardenales, la convocatoria del Concilio de Trento, las nuevas órdenes y tribunales, así como la reforma de la Dataría, las tasas y el fiscalismo y sobre todo la Comisión creada para la Reforma en 1537, el Concilium que da título al artículo, las vicisitudes por las que pasa y sus principales protagonistas (Jérôme Aléander, Tomás Badía, Gian Pietro Carafa, Gasparo Contarini, Bartolomeo Guidicione y Laurerio Dionisio). El meollo de la cuestión era si el Datario podía exigir una contribución económica por las composiciones (divididas en gracias temporales y espirituales, y estas, a su vez, en dispensas de pecados o de leyes). En las gracias espirituales el parecer de algunos era que se caía en una auténtica simonía. Gaspar Contareno no lo creía así si había una intención justa. Si bien los cardenales con realística crudeza hablan de que no es honesto, sino que es una auténtica simonía. |
