| Summary: | La Carta edificante de la provincia de Ilocos y de los igorrotes es un documento inédito del historiar agustino fray Agustín María de Castro (1740-1801). En este ensayo, con motivo del hallazgo de este documento, se realiza un estado de la cuestión y actualización biográfica del conocido historiador agustino de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. El P. Castro participó en la guerra contra los ingleses, vivió durante los años de las polémicas del Real Patronato y la Visita Diocesana, y fue protagonista de otras controversias apenas conocidas. Todos sus escritos se publicaron póstumamente. Este que aquí publicamos constituye una aportación interesante y curiosa al conocimiento de Ilocos y de los igorrotes de su tiempo. The Carta Edificante of the province of Ilocos and the Igorrotes is an unpublished document of the Augustinian historian Fray Agustín María de Castro (1740-1801). In this essay, on the occasion of the discovery of this document, a state of the question and biographical update of the well-known Augustinian historian of the second half of the 18th century is carried out. Father Castro participated in the war against the English, lived through the years of the controversies of the Royal Patronage and the Diocesan Visit,and was the protagonist of other hardly known controversies. All of his writings were published posthumously. This one that we publish here constitutes an interesting and curious contribution to the knowledge of Ilocos and the Igorrots of his time. |
