| Summary: | This study examines the Christmas event at Greccio, starting with the question of what made this episode unique among other biblical stories St. Francis may have staged. What emerges from this study is the reality Francis brought to the representation at Greccio and the importance of the words he preached there. Thus, it seems that we can interpret the event at Greccio by looking at it in terms of theater, thinking of it in terms of a very specific genre of theater, namely, "spoken word theater." On other occasions when Francis staged biblical stories, he was very histrionic, almost exceeding the limits of good taste and focusing attention on himself. At Greccio, however, his staging was more refined, the celebration was beautiful and Francis, using his words like a "rhapsode," focused all the people's attention on the humility of the Incarnation. Questo studio guarda l'evento del Natale di Greccio partendo dalla domanda sull'unicità dell’episodio, tra gli altri, in cui san Francesco mette in scena qualche storia biblica. Ciò che emerge dallo studio è la sobrietà della rappresentazione di Greccio e l'importanza della parola ivi adoperata. Sembra quindi che si possa leggere l'evento di Greccio applicando ad esso le categorie teatrali, pensando tuttavia ad un genere molto specifi co di teatro: il teatro di parola. Francesco, in altre occasioni in cui mette in scena storie bibliche, è molto istrionico, si muove al limite del buon gusto e concentra l'attenzione su di sé.
