Summary: | In contrast to the current tendency towards an excessive subjectivation of religious experience, Christianity does not detach the subjective dimension of the believing experience from the objective revelation of God; on the contrary, the objectivity of revelation makes possible and forms part of the religious experience, and allows its subjective appropriation to be evaluated, discerned and criticized, while at the same time nourished, proposed and enriched. Instead of conceiving the subject as an absolute criterion of truth, Christianity thinks of the relationship with God in terms of integration, encounter and communion, where otherness, history and freedom are assured and empowered. This is expressed in an unsurpassable way in Jesus Christ and in an attainable way in the lives of the saints. |
