Description
Summary:Though Rowan Williams declares friendship pivotal to Teresa of Avila’s theology, this claim has not been significantly developed. Seeking to address this gap, the paper explores Teresian friendship-theology’s divine-human aspect. After developing a picture of the soul’s friendship with Christ as an affective union of mutual benevolence that is both divinely infused and humanly participated, attention is given to three golden threads of this friendship: prayer, suffering, and the place of virtue.
