Description
Summary:This article addresses the so-called Chronicle by Jacopo Tedaldi, a Florentine merchant who participated in the defence of Constantinople during the fifty-five-day Turkish siege of 1453. More details on Tedaldi’s life are presented in this study, together with the key locations where the Chronicle circulated in the summer/autumn of 1453: from the arrival of Tedaldi in Negroponte to the copying of the oldest known manuscript witness of the text at the court of Burgundy. The identity of two individuals who are named at the very beginning of the Chronicle is explored. An Italian annotated translation of the text is provided in an appendix.
