Description
Résumé:Starting with a pamphlet printed in 1807 and used in the elementary teaching of cosmographical topics in Oratorian schools, in this paper the reception of the cosmological proposals of Copernicus and Tycho by the Oratorians will be discussed (from the second half of the eighteenth century to the early nineteenth century). In a complex context including moments of political instability, and even persecution, the position of the professors of natural philosophy of the Congregation of the Oratory changed and adapt to circumstances not always easily discernible to historians of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
