La descripción en Hechos sugiere que, si bien estos protagonistas carecen de muchos de los factores habilitantes disponibles para sus oponentes, los apóstoles Esteban y Pablo están llenos del Espíritu y pueden actuar en consecuencia. De esta manera, tienen a su disposición análisis, aprobados por Dios, de las situaciones que enfrentan y pueden permanecer leales a su misión con valentía, incluso frente a una oposición feroz. La posesión del Espíritu los califica y los distingue de sus adversarios. La posesión y la ayuda del Espíritu proporcionan el empoderamiento crucial y superan los factores habilitantes de los que de otro modo carecerían los protagonistas que siguen a Cristo. The Book of Acts contains accounts of religious conflict of various sorts. In these conflicts, a variety of domains is contested between Christ-followers, other Jews and also non-jews. Different enabling factors are available to the protagonists on all sides. In a number of cases, Acts mentions tbe Holy Spirit in the context of such accounts. What role does the Spirit play in these conflicts? In what way are the Christ-following protagonists characterised by these references?´The portrayal in Acts suggests that while these protagonists lack many of the enabling factors available to their opponents, the apostles, Stephen and Paul are filled with the Spirit and can act accordingly. In this way they have at their disposal divinely approved analyses of the situations they face and can boldly remain loyal to their mission - even in the face of fierce opposition. Possession of the Spirit qualifies them and distinguishes them from their adversaries. The possession and help of the Spirit provide the crucial empowerment and outweigh the enabling factors which the Christ-following protagonists lack otherwise. this article examines these references to the Spirit and in this way seeks to demonstrate the significance of this neglected aspect of the pneumatology of Acts. |
