| Summary: | Conscience plays an essential role in moral decision-making in any given situation. However, this central notion has had various functions and considerations within the theological tradition and has been the subject of debate according to different schools. The aim of this article is to retrace some of this history in order to situate current debates. It also aims to shed light on the current relationship between conscience, discernment and moral truth, three interrelated notions. Lastly, it highlights the spiritual dimension of conscience, so that these relationships can be properly considered. La conscience joue un rôle essentiel dans la décision morale en situation. Cependant cette notion centrale a connu des fonctions et des considérations variées au sein de la tradition théologique et a été l'objet de débats selon diverses écoles. L'objet de cet article est de retracer quelques éléments de cette histoire pour situer les débats du présent. Il vise également à éclairer l'actualité de la relation entre conscience, discernement et vérité morale, trois notions liées entre elles. Enfin, il met en relief la dimension spirituelle de la conscience pour penser ces relations avec justesse. |
