| Summary: | Antes de hablar de lo que la Biblia puede significar para el pueblo negro es necesario recordar lo que ella significó en su historia: fue una herida, pues se la usó para legitimar la opresión del señor, del capataz, del macho, del juez: del poder blanco. Pero ella fue también un plato repleto, del cual fue posible extraer fuerza, lucha, resistencia y saborear el amor de Dios por los últimos, hombres y mujeres negras. Es, pues, reconocida como una fuente que mata la sed: una fuente todavía amarga o bajo secuestro, o incluso a veces negada. Una fuente que debe convivir con las otras fuentes que Dios donó. Before speaking of what the Bible might mean for Black peoble, it is necessary to remember what it has meant in their history: the Bible was a wound, used to legitimize the opression of the master, the slavedriver, the “macho” male, the judge: in sum, the power of the Whites. The Bible was also a “full plate”, from which it was possible to feed on strength, the ability to struggle, the power of resistance and to savour the love of God for the least, namely, Black men and women. Hence it is acknowledged as a fountain that quenches thirst: a fountain still bitter and under alien control and sometimes denied to them, a fountain which ought to be seen as coexisting with the other fountains which God has given |
