| Summary: | En el Caribe inglés un concepto muy usado es el de ‘empowerment’ (capacitación), que apunta a la necesidad de ayudar a los marginados a reconocer sus derechos y a capacitarlos para ejercerlos. Esto me incitó a examinar en la Biblia este concepto. Curiosamente en el Antiguo Testamento los conceptos relacionados con el ‘poder de Yaveh’ surgieron de la experiencia de la lucha del pueblo por su liberación, y es aquí donde se manifiesta su ‘gloria’ y ‘poder’. En el Nuevo Testamento, particularmente en el Magnificat de María, en los relatos de las tentaciones de Jesús y en los milagros (denominados “señales” por Juan y “hechos poderosos” por los sinópticos), Jesucristo siempre confiere a los beneficiarios un nuevo sentido de dignidad y de capacitación para asumir esa lucha. In tho Englisch Caribbean the concept of ‘empowerment’ is widely used pointing to the need to help the marginalized to recognize their rights and to empower them to excercise them. This incited me to examine this concept in the Bible. Curiosly in the Old Testament all concepts related to the ‘power of Yaveh’ have originated out of the experience of the people’s struggles for liberation and here is where the ‘power’ and ‘glory’ of Yaweh are manifested. In the New Testament, particularly in the Magnificat of Mary, the narratives about the temptations of Jesus and his miracles (called ‘signs’ by John and ‘mighty acts’ by the Synoptics) Jesus Christ always confer to the beneficiaries a new sense of dignity, empowering them to undertake the struggle. |
