Summary:Exposure and coming to terms with abuse are essential processes in what those affected by abuse regard as an expression of justice and reparation, and they are the basis of an honest and realistic prevention programme. But great differences constantly recur in how abuse victims and Church officials experience and assess the process of "coming to terms" with. This phrase is a provisional translation of the German term Aufarbeitung, and one problem in this difference is that there are six senses of Aufarbeitung. In this article the different sense of Aufarbeitung will be explained with regard to abuse in the Church.
