Summary: | In late autumn 2020, under the title Erzählen als Widerstand ("Telling our Story as Resistance") a collection of autobiographical accounts by 23 women. In this book - for the first time in this form in the German-speaking world - about the spiritual and sexual abuse they themselves had suffered. Typical and particularly dangerous settings mentioned include pastoral contexts such as spiritual exercises, spiritual direction or the sacrament of penance. Abuse of adult women was for a long time inconceivable and so also unmentionable, but in the years since the appearance of this book this has changed. This article not only focuses on the phenomenon of abuse of adult women, but also describes some key (theological) learning from the reading of the victims' reports. |
