| Summary: | According to her own testimony, Hildegard of Bingen’s visions focus on understanding and interpreting Holy Scripture. Accordingly, the Bible is at the centre of all her works, including her letters. In one of Hildegard’s letters addressed to clerics, the various methods of her treatment of the biblical text can be observed in an exemplary way. The analysis proves liturgy to be the place where Hildegard perceives and appropriates Holy Scripture. Benedictine culture shapes both the reception and the literary use of the biblical text in her works. Die Visionen Hildegards von Bingen zielen ihrem eigenen Zeugnis zufolge auf die Sinnerschließung der Heiligen Schrift. Dementsprechend steht die Bibel im Zentrum ihres Gesamtwerkes, zu dem auch ihre Briefe gehören. In einem Brief, den Hildegard an Kleriker gerichtet hat, lassen sich die unterschiedlichen Methoden des Hildegard eigenen Umgangs mit dem biblischen Text exemplarisch beobachten. Die Analyse zeigt, dass der Ort, an dem Hildegard sich die Heilige Schrift aneignet, die gefeierte Liturgie ist. Als Ergebnis ist festzuhalten, dass die benediktinische Lebensform sowohl die Rezeption als auch die schriftstellerische Aufarbeitung der Bibeltexte in ihren Werken prägt. |
