Riepilogo:In this paper I discuss Gabriel Marcel’s philosophical reflection known as pneumatology, by referring to the question of existence and the ontological mystery. Existence is always living existence, and it is placed into the mystery through a religious feeling. The pneumatology or philosophy of the soul, inspired by this feeling and expressed through a symbolic language, reveals the spiritual dimension of every existential activity, as it is possible to find in the Christian religion and in the Orphic one. According to Ricœur, this can be found in Marcel’s reading of Rilke, who opens up to the possibility for a philosophical research that invests the soul of the poet. Although Ricœur claims that Marcel does not seriously consider the question of evil, nevertheless Ricœur seems to integrate Marcel’s reflection into his thinking for two reasons. Firstly, for the importance that symbolic thinking plays in the development of philosophical anthropology and secondly for the conclusions that Ricœur draws about the will.
