Summary: | The theory of metaphor that Ricœur elaborates from his analysis of the symbol is among the most relevant in 20th century thought. Criticizing the reduction of metaphor to a stylistic ornament, Ricœur privileges the study of living metaphor and his creative and original power, defining it as "a calculated category error". This contribution aims to elucidate the transition from symbol to metaphor by examining a peculiar but emblematic case: Ricœur's reading of Nietzsche. The analysis thus provides an opportunity to deepen Ricœur's attempt to overcome the tropological reduction with which the Genealogy of Morals would be permeated, by appealing to the idea that consciousness is the place of an original form of dialectic between ipseity and otherness that would be expressed in the metaphor of the voice and the call, that is, in the so-called "voice of consciousness". |
