Description
Summary:The "way of beauty" is a very complex reality, subject to different interpretations. There are now numerous contributions dedicated to the encounter between theology and aesthetics and those who try to explore this field of investigation cannot help but notice its real complexity. Currently, it seems to identify different interpretative levels of the theology-aesthetic relationship, and different ways of thinking theologically via pulchritudinis. In this article we will try to outline, as far as possible, some interpretative lines of this relationship, however, in doing so we will have to resort to inevitable generalizations, placing the emphasis mainly on the features common to various proposals. Some aspects that seem to characterize certain current hermeneutical orientations regarding the relationship theology-aesthetics / via pulchritudinis will thus be briefly outlined. After introducing the problem, two main trends will be analyzed: the first relating to the relationship between theology and art and the second relating to theology and perception/sentiments. Within these trends, different interpretations of them will emerge. It will conclude with some critical remarks on the above.
