| Zusammenfassung: | The so called »Roman Controversy« was a conflict between two schools of Biblical scholars in the 1950s and 1960s. While the Pontificium Institutum Biblicum took an interest in the historical-critical method, the Pontificia Universitas Lateranensis held that such a methodology was modernist and unnecessary because of the infallibility of the bible. The controversy was at the heart of some of the discussions at Vatican II, and this study examines the particular issues and persons who participated in the conflict during the years leading up to the Council. |
