| Summary: | This article deals with the study of the hospital of San Giacomo degli Spagnoli in the city of Rome, founded in the second half of the 15th century as a refuge and asylum for the poor of the Castilian nation and troops passing through the city. The objective is to approach the evolution of the arrival of the sick, pilgrims, and dispensers, through the documentation preserved in the Archive of the National Church of Spain in Rome (AINE). Using a qualitative methodology, we approach the functioning and procedure, from the internal registry books, followed by the Castilian mourners in their reception and subsequent hospitalization. Through the registry books, we count the entries, the geographic origin of the nationals treated, the gender or the causes that led them to arrive in Rome, to request shelter for their misery, and on occasion even economic help to return to their place of origin. The analysis allows us to approach a modern-day hospital where the Castilians at the Roman Court found a remedy for their material and spiritual needs. En este artículo se aborda el estudio del hospital de San Giacomo degli Spagnoli de la ciudad de Roma, fundado en la segunda mitad del siglo XV como refugio y asilo para los pobres de nación castellana y tropas de paso por la ciudad. El objetivo es aproximarnos a la evolución de la llegada de enfermos, peregrinos y dispensantes a través de la documentación conservada en el Archivo de la Iglesia Nacional Española en Roma (AINE). Empleando una metodología cualitativa nos aproximamos al funcionamiento y procedimiento, a partir de los libros de régimen interno, seguido con los castellanos dolientes en su recepción y posterior hospitalización. A través de los libros de registro contabilizamos las entradas, la procedencia geográfica de los connacionales atendidos, el género o las causas que los llevaron a arribar a Roma, solicitar amparo para su miseria y, en ocasiones, incluso ayuda económica para retornar a su lugar de origen. El análisis permite aproximarse a un hospital de época moderna donde los castellanos en la corte romana hallaron remedio a sus necesidades materiales, pero también espirituales. |
