Summary: | The expansion of Lisbon in the mid-20th century creates unexpected gaps in the map of the churches of the Patriarchate of Lisbon. The ecclesial dynamism experienced in the decades of the Second Vatican Council and the critical thinking of a group of architects linked to the religious panorama allow for the genesis of a unique work, still little explored. This article takes the theoretical production of Pedro Vieira de Almeida, author of the project, as a starting point to understand the main architectural mechanisms underlying the building. The results have the potential to rekindle a richer use of the building and may even have positive repercussions at the level of the Catholic Church in Portugal, by functioning as a field of experimentation for practises of faith and images of the Church more in line with the spirit of the ideas conveyed by the Second Vatican Council. |
