| Summary: | Francis’ pontificate has been deeply marked by the crisis of sexual abuse in the Church. But this crisis has a history that is also juridical. The way in which crimes of pedophilia or sexual abuse by clerics have been dealt with has been marked by a form of post-conciliar anti-juridical naivety, which recent popes have sought to correct, starting with the 1983 Code and the importance assumed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The steps described here show Francis’ unequivocal determination to resolve this tragedy once and for all. But Francis has also ambitiously called on the Church as a whole to be a place of healthy and safe relationships for the most vulnerable of the faithful. Le pontificat de François est profondément marqué par la crise des abus sexuels dans l’Église. Mais cette crise a une histoire qui est aussi juridique. La manière dont on a traité des délits de pédophilie ou d’abus sexuels par des clercs a été marquée par une forme de naïveté anti-juridique post-conciliaire que les derniers papes ont cherché à corriger à partir du Code de 1983 et de l’importance prise par la Congrégation pour la Doctrine de la foi. Les étapes décrites ici montrent la détermination sans équivoque de François à résoudre une fois pour toutes cette tragédie. Mais François a aussi, de manière très ambitieuse, appelé l’Église tout entière à être un lieu de relations saines et sûres pour les fidèles les plus vulnérables. |
