Summary: | In these remarks I attempt not just to point out significant differences between historicism and historism (this had been already done by K. R. Popper), but to present at particular examples how both types of reflection on what had happened in human history are being shown in the study of religion. I recall mostly authors interested in the history of Christianity and identifying themselves with various Churches and Christian confessions. By doing so I attempt to justify a general thesis that the lines of distinction between historicism and historism are not the same as the lines between confessional and anticonfessional views. However the differences between the historicistical and historical approach are quite subtle and it is not easy to point out in which moment ends the first one and begins the latter, or what has to be done to avoid the first one and to find oneself in the positions of the latter. |
