| Summary: | Within the Catholic church the sense of community is an important value supporting religious and social identity as well as the creation of social capital. If building upon the sense of religious community, the social capital proves to be more sustainable compared to the social capital based on rational references, characteristic for lay areas of activity. For many years the community dimension of religiosity remained in Poland at a roughly constant level. Yet recent, Poland-wide research shows that this tendency has been reversing in the last years. The paper refers to recent research in this areas and discusses main symptoms of the erosion of Polish Catholics’ religiosity as well as its root-causes. |
