Description
Summary:Patanjali edited treatise "Yoga Sutra" is probably dated on the 2nd or 3rd century AD. He collected practices by which the yogi achieves a state of subjugation of the phenomena of consciousness - that is yoga. This means purifying and stabilizing the mind in order to be able to reach one-pointedness of consciousness leading to asamprajñata-samādhi and a liberating knowledge. The philosophy of yoga is referred to two principles: the Self (puruṣa) and nature (prakṛti). They are completely separated from each other. Understanding their differences is the essence of mystical insight. The path that leads to this condition is yogāṅga, consisting of eight elements: yama, niyama, āsana, prāṇayāma, pratyāhāra, dhāraṇā, dhyāna and samādhi. The last three are being referred to as saṁyama and are important in the process of liberation. Saṁyama is meditative absorption, in which disappears the division into subject, object, and cognitive function. This is a liberating insight - vivekakhyati which content is being made by the recognition of the true Self.
