Summary: | If there is exile at the beginning, as in the case of myths of religions’ origins, a return to self forebodes redemptive wayfaring. Religious pilgrimages are an institution of regaining places in space in time so as to consolidate the prevalent or unfavourable positions in a social structure. The methodology of sociological phenomenon renders it possible to work on rudimentary religious texts in which pilgrimages are the main theme. The religious pilgrimage is a cultural movement as an alternative to social structure. It is an institution wherein the structure is inverted in the presentation of its meanings. In its stories about the importance of the social structure of power, particularly in the story of Solomon and his major betrayal, the biblical text presents a core paradox of religion. It proclaims the inability to achieve religious goals, that is direct contact with the Sacrum, without its negation in socially accepted forms. Solomon's betrayal is the reason for the pilgrimage to the temple he himself built, just as pilgrimages to Christian temples compensate for lost time and space, a retrieval of innocence after betrayal. |
