| Summary: | The issues of poverty, which are the object of interest in this article, have been addressed not only by the social sciences but also by public institutions and organizations, including the Catholic Church. The text is composed of two main parts. The first part is dedicated to the general description of the category of "poverty" and its specificity. In the second one, I discuss the issue of poverty from the historical-theological perspective by making reference to selected examples from the history of the Christian doctrine and Christian life. Both the views and the patterns of behaviour of the first generations of Christians set very good examples to the contemporary Catholic Church. Undoubtedly, the Church attempts to solve the problem of poverty (both in the domain of the body and the domain of spirit). What is important, however, is to behave in a consistent manner and to pay attention to the importance of the redefinition of the human moral sphere. |
