Description
Summary:Both the contemporary critique of the study of religion and the religious criticism carried out by this study are self-referential. It takes note of the movements of religious revival in the contemporary world while being unable to make its unconventional identification. The study of religion turns to its own basis in order to ask about the tools essential for its study, if it is not to undergo complete atrophy as a result of the paralyzing effects of the postmodern relativism. If religious revival is a global movement of various intensity, it can be studied form the cultural perspectives, i.e. taking into account the initial conditions of the situation of modernity. The condition of modernity assumes the art of a self-conscious distance from the past as well as from a situation of a specific naivety of its expression. Indeed, modernity absorbs modernism as its naivety because both categories whilst they are different are interdependent and mutually constitute one another. What is important is the self-reflectivity of the modern study of religion, i.e. a situation in which its sources describe it as forms of research that each time and unavoidably are a thing of the past, especially when it naively claims that it is a perspective of the present and the future.
