| Summary: | The French fighters are the largest group of European jihadists in Syria and Iraq. Hence, questions about the reasons of this phenomenon appear. We can currently identify the some mains reasons of today’s French jihadism. The first is the significantly higher number of French Muslim immigrants (including a significant number of young people referring to Islamic jihad), as compared to other European countries. The second reason is ideological - re-islamization of Muslim immigration through activity of Muslim Brotherhood, Tabligh movements as well as the ideology of revolutionary salafism (jihadism in other words). Impact of organizational and political activities of Al-Qaeda as well as Maghreb jihadists is another reason for the appearance of the French jihadism. Social background is the fourth reason of this phenomenon. And it relates directly to the next reason - the psychological background. Opportunities related to the Internet, which has become in France an essential tool in recruiting Islamic fighters, are the last of presented reasons of French jihadism. |
