Summary: | The life, ideas and social activities of Wincenty Lutosławski (1863-1954) - a philosopher, expert on Plato’s philosophy, journalist and reformer - have already been the subject of various academic investigations, but up to this day, however, Lutosławski’s exploration of esoteric knowledge remains almost completely unknown. The philosopher’s inquiries were not limited only to available literary sources but he also corresponded intensely with the representatives of the esoteric world. While doing this he did not limit himself to acquiring interesting information (or verifying that which he already possessed), but he also sought solutions to his personal problems. The article presents the correspondence (the available part) of Wincenty Lutosławski with Hiram Erastus Butler (1841-1916), the founder of The Esoteric Fraternity, the creator of an astrological system known as the "Solar Biology," the author of several widely-read hand-books of the spiritual self-help genre - one the most important figures in the American occult world of the late 19th and early 20th century. |
