Summary: | This article points out the distinctions between law, politics and morality in a state which practices the principles of liberal democracy in the life of its citizens. In this article, I refer to selected aspects of a doctrine of natural law, i.e., the metaphysical-religious doctrine of the moral natural law. Metaphysical-religious theories claim that the origins and content of the natural law they promote are the only authentic, universal and common ones. They attempt to infer the rules for universal ethics as well as objective, universal and universally binding norms from the aforementioned moral natural law. The doctrines claim that the norms of moral natural law determine the common good, that is, constitute the norms of positive law and political norms, and as a result regulate the social-cultural life as well as make the normative horizon of the public order. The positive law and the norms of politics become dependent on one specific value system and the worldview determined by it. In this case, a set of norms of the moral natural law aspires to hegemony and totality in citizens’ life and in the state, by recognizing the axiological monism as universally binding. |
