| Summary: | The article shows the roots and presents main features of liberal Quakerism. Quakerism arose in the middle of the 17th century in England and up to the end of the 19th century was a Christian denomination. After the conference in Manchester in 1895, it started being influenced by liberal tendencies which included the acceptance of theory of evolution and the results of historical-critical biblical studies. As a result, the Quakerism in Britain became predominantly liberal making experience the only source of religious knowledge, not the Bible. The article describes different tendencies within Quakerism: the liberal as well as the conservative and the evangelical tendency. |
