| Summary: | The article presents an interpretation of chosen approaches of understanding mutual relations between religion and politics in Polish social philosophy of the interwar period. The presented topic is comprehensive and relates to various areas in which the debate about the role of religion in politics has continuously been held. In the beginning of the 21st century, it is worth reminding that the greatest value resulting from previous debates is the emerging feeling of freedom, visible in the religious tolerance. On such grounds, it is then possible to form a society identifying itself with moral duties. Such a thought may be inspiring for politics, as it is possible to have one’s own worldview but remain silent on the this topic as a public person. On the other hand, it is also possible to be a politician and strive for representing the society in its totality instead of the Church. Every person has the possibility to function in politics but politicians’ actions should be consistent with reason. Many philosophers of the interwar period called for moderation and modesty in the political debate, as its purpose is not to seek enemies, but to lead a discourse for the common good. This purpose remains vital until this day. |
