Description
Summary:This contribution underlines the historical and contemporary importance of the basilica institution in the life of the Church and the influence of its pastoral action. While the present Supreme Pontiff manifests in many ways his desire to give greater breadth and effectiveness to the collegial character of the episcopate rehabilitated by the Second Vatican Council, this article recalls how timely this institution is in this regard. in fact, the Decree Domus Ecclesiae of 9 November 1989 introduced a procedure based on the principle of deconcentration, the application of which, while making a powerful contribution to the revaluation of the role of the diocesan bishop and the Conference of Bis hops – and thus the local or particular Church - increases their degree of participation in the government of the universal Church.
