Pierre Damien aurait joué un rôle décisif dans cette association alors qu’il dépend d’un patrimoine qu’il exploite en vue d’une argumentation orientée par la refondation du clergé célibataire de l’Église grégorienne. Sa lecture contraste, par ses accents plus que par ses racines, avec la doxa exégétique, socle de la formation du clergé grégorien. La Bible glosée et ses succédanés aident à comprendre les associations observées dans les actes de la pratique entre Sodome et les fautes qui, de l’oisiveté à l’hérésie, peuvent étonner un lecteur contemporain. L’étude met en perspective la cohérence de ces approches en considérant leur statut épistémologique respectif. Today, a reference to Sodom tends to enclose the reprobation of homosexuality within a biblical and sexual category. Peter Damian is said to have played a decisive role in this association, drawing on a heritage that he exploits in an argument oriented by the refoundation of the celibate clergy of the Gregorian Church.
